The funeral of Bob Christie took place on Tuesday 5th March. Many of Bob's former teammates formed a guard of honour with cricket bats as his family carried Bob's coffin into Goole Parish church. Bob's son Neil, also a previous Goole Town cricketer, gave a heartfelt and eloquent tribute to his father during the service. There was a good attendance from Bob's family, friends and former colleagues, both at the Church and afterwards at the Goole Cricket Club.
Bob had a long and distinguished career as a sportsman and cricket was his main interest. Bob began playing the game in 1949 and played for Goole over many years starting in 1953. He played his last match for Goole in 1991, after helping the Club to a league championship. During his cricket career, his achievements included ten wickets in a match and centuries with the bat.
Bob was a keen supporter of the Club and he will be sorely missed by all at Goole Town CC. The Club sends our condolences to son, Neil and daughter, Dawn and their families.
